<g:title>DFMK - Self Titled - 12" Vinyl</g:title>
      <g:description>
DFMK - Self Titled - 12" Vinyl

15 Tracks - Pink Vinyl Color

DFMK’s release captures the chaotic charm of a band that thrives on energy, attitude, and a strong DIY spirit rooted in Tijuana’s punk scene. Blending garage rock swagger with punchy hardcore tempos, the record feels like a sweaty rehearsal room celebration—amped-up riffs, driving drums, and shout-along vocals wrapped in a loose, party-fueled atmosphere. There’s a rawness here that never slips into sloppiness, instead giving the songs a lived-in urgency that feels authentic and immediate. Equal parts grit and groove, it’s a snapshot of a band that doesn’t overthink it—they just plug in, turn up, and let it rip.

La Escalera Records LER-060, Tiny Dragon Music, Puercords, Rad Girlfriend Records, Constructivismo,
</g:description>

      <g:description>
stabbed in back / burn burn burn - split 7"

4 Tracks - Red Vinyl Color

Stabbed In Back / Burn Burn Burn split delivers exactly what a DIY split should—two bands firing off their best material in a tight, no-frills package. Stabbed In Back lean into fast, melodic hardcore with punchy rhythms and anthemic hooks that keep things urgent but memorable, while Burn Burn Burn bring a slightly looser, punk rock edge with a raw, driving energy that complements the flip side perfectly. The production stays gritty without feeling sloppy, giving the whole record an honest, basement-show immediacy. It’s the kind of split that doesn’t try to reinvent anything, but instead thrives on execution—short, sharp, and built for repeat spins.

La Escalera Records LER-024
</g:description>

      <g:title>Bastards of young / success - split 7"</g:title>
      <g:description>
Bastards of young / success - split 7"

4 Tracks - Mixed Marble Vinyl Color

This is the first release from La Escalera Records, the new label formed by long-time friends of mine and veterans of the San Diego Music scene. On to the music…Side A belongs to Bastards Of Young, a band that I had never really listened to before, but was familiar with since another friend, Christopher Mason, put out some of their records on his own label, SwaggerCity. What I hear here I like. It reminds me a fair amount of some of the early- to mid-’90s bands that straddled the punk and indie lines, like Samiam and Seaweed. A couple of nice tunes here. As far as Success! goes, I’m not sure this is what they’re going for, but to me the songs here remind me of the kind of band you’d see pop up in an old surf or skate video comp, right between tracks by Lagwagon and Unwritten Law. Not exactly my bag. If you’re looking for a double-sided slice of ‘90s nostalgia, this record will gladly satisfy your cravings.

–Jeff Proctor (Razorcake)

La Escalera Records LER-001
</g:description>

      <g:title>The Gay Agenda - Penetrating - 12" LP</g:title>
      <g:description>
The Gay Agenda - Penetrating - 12" LP

Clear Screen-printed Vinyl

11 Tracks

The wonderful—and by now hopefully less shocking—dichotomy that defines The Gay Agenda rightfully places them among the most interesting debut acts in the hardcore scene in 2020. Formed in San Diego in 2017, they released an EP in 2018 and now arrive with their first LP, Penetrating.

A title that already says a lot about this band, whose sound is rooted in hardcore (grindcore), very much in the style of Napalm Death during their Scum era. To be clear, it’s impossible not to recognize influences such as Tragedy, Disrupt, or Limp Wrist.

Now that the musical framework is clear, it’s important to focus on the cultural roots of this genre—intellectual, yes, no, maybe—but certainly hyper-masculine, shaped by nihilism and misogyny. Breaking the link between alpha masculinity and hardcore punk, in all its forms, comes queercore. And in San Diego, new stars are emerging: The Gay Agenda.

With songs like “Homo Riot” (featuring Justin Pearson of Retox and The Locust) and “Masculinity Is A Prison,” they become the perfect manifesto for a moment in history that is more than controversial.

We needed bands to come back and emphasize these ideas—of that, there is no doubt (no irony).

—Valentina Vagnoni, Salad Days

La Escalera Records : LER-058
</g:description>

      <g:title>Bastards Of Young - California Redemption - 12" LP</g:title>
      <g:description>
Bastards Of Young - California Redemption - 12" LP

8 tracks, Screen-printed cover

Available on White, Clear and Red vinyl

California Redemption captures Bastards Of Young in their raw, early form—where melody, grit, and purpose collide. Rooted in DIY punk ethos, the record blends driving rhythms and anthemic hooks with lyrics that hit deeper than the usual scene fare. There’s a clear emotional and political undercurrent running through these tracks, most notably on the title song, which reflects on California’s social climate at the time.

Sonically, it leans into melodic punk with a heart-on-sleeve edge—think big choruses, earnest delivery, and just enough roughness to keep it grounded. While later releases would refine their sound, California Redemption stands out for its immediacy and authenticity, capturing a band still close to the basement and the message.

A solid pickup for fans of melodic, socially aware punk and anyone who appreciates the spirit of early DIY releases—this one’s more about feeling than polish, and that’s exactly the point.

La Escalera Records
</g:description>

      <g:title>The Run Up - In Motion - 12" Vinyl</g:title>
      <g:description>
The Run Up - In Motion - 12" Vinyl

12 Tracks - Blue Marble vinyl color

There is so much to love here. An album of rawness, dripping in punk spirit and rockier melodies that give it weight and meaning. It sounds and feels personal, as though The Run Up had to make this record no matter what.

Keeping things rooted in the underground, the album is a bit rough around the edges but it works so damn well. Especially with a vocal style that is clean but gruff as hell. Showcased wonderfully on Portraits and backed up by the excellently catchy Grip. An opening duo that gets things started very well.

Your Omission is very heartfelt, the strum of guitars working absolute wonders on the emotions. While the more action-packed Discretion excites in its verses but touches the soul in the chorus. A special track, one that The Run Up can proudly display as a proper showcase of what they’re capable of.

…but hey, maybe what you want is high-tempo punkier numbers though? Well, worry not. The Run Up have plenty of them in the bag too. Check is very bouncy but also has a bit more venom in the rhythm, Light It Up is short and to the point…a sharp point while the band titled track, is a wicked effort that takes the best of punk and rock to create a really memorable listen.

It all culminates in the rain-drenched finale of ADAC, occasional rays of the sun breaking through the clouds but unrelentingly introspective. An exceptionally good song to end on and the perfect capping off of a really damn good album.

La Escalera Records, Swamp Cabbage, Money Pit Music, Gunner Records, &Vinyl Records

</g:description>

      <g:title>Caskitt - Old Fires New Frontier - 12" vinyl</g:title>
      <g:description>
Caskitt - Old Fires New Frontier - 12" vinyl

11 Tracks - Red Marble vinyl color

There are many preconceived notions when you hear about a 3-piece pop punk band from San Diego. Either they are a surfer party band, or they have countless potty humor songs that will continue to tickle your inner thirteen-year-old. Caskitt is neither one of these bands. They are more of a Gainesville meets Fat Wreck Chords band. They hit hard but have melody. Their songs are heavy but catchy. And their drummer sings lead. Yeah, they are a little different.

Caskitt's latest album, "Old Fires New Frontier", is no sophomore slump. As I have said in previous reviews, I am sucker for a great opening song. Caskitt does not disappoint. The album blasts off with great opening song "Blinders". This song hits hard and sets the tone for the rest of the album. Each subsequent song comes in at or way under three minutes, but their urgency does come with some breathing room. The only typical thing about Caskitt is the signature mid-song pop punk breakdown. But I suspect these breakdowns are used more as a tactic to give their drummer/singer a break rather then a musical trope used by others in their genre.

Instead of rehashing old material or mining a musical vein many artist tap out for their debut, Caskitt just let their melodies evolve to be even more infectious. Again, this band is surprising. I am very interested to see where they will go next. <g:title>The Loss - Everything you ever wanted - 12 vinyl</g:title>
      <g:description>
The Loss - Everything you ever wanted - 12 vinyl

7 Tracks - Purple Marble vinyl color

Seattle five-piece The Loss hit the ground running on this seven-track release and basically keep up a pretty brisk pace all the way to an end, with guitars and drums blazing. There are definitely hints of Strike Anywhere to be heard within Everything You Ever Wanted and this is primarily through some of the guitar work of Ian Reas and Mat Chandler but also via the crisp drumming of Shane Hassman (which is ably accompanied by the bass playing of Benny Early). Jacob Bevan provides the vocals, but any similarities to the aforementioned Richmond band end there, as he has a slightly gruffer voice with more of a low end quality.

Although "No Fences" is a decent opener, it's the second track "Domestic Relief" which offers a bit more variety, breaking up the fast pace with the odd slower moment, without any drop in intensity. "A Place To Call Home" is another head-nodder, and it's where Bevan shines the most. "December 8th" is no slouch either, hammering along at a fair clip and with a punchy delivery, much in the same vein as the rest of this EP.

Closer "The Last Time We Talk About This" shows a nice shift in speed as it approaches its end, slowing things down a touch to give a sense of closure to the record.

This EP is all about big guitars, a thundering rhythm section and strong vocals (both solo and the occasional gang style) and in bringing this all together the Loss manage to make a pretty decent record; there's no new ground being broken here, but fans of energetic melodic hardcore should enjoy it. - Review from Punknews.org

La Escalera Records
</g:description>

On my first listen, I toe-tapped to the beats as little lines crawled out of melodies and white-knuckled my attention. On the next listen, I started learning melodies, singing along. Soon, I had a shortlist of favorite tracks. Then, I got to see Mercy Music live with Spanish Love Songs and I heard them again for the first time: I witnessed their scrappy, electric energy in person and watched them breathe life into the songs I didn’t know yet. And now, however that all adds up, I have a new favorite. Eleven songs of anxiety, depression, and injured hope—eleven songs I’ll sing for the rest of my life. - Review by Dying Scene

La Escalera Records
</g:description>

      <g:title>Shell Corporation - Fucked - 12" Vinyl</g:title>
      <g:description>
Shell Corporation - Fucked

12" Vinyl - Black

California-based political punk act The Shell Corporation took some time off since 2014’s Mandrake, but, luckily for listeners, they are as righteously angry as ever before; Fucked is certainly quite the artistic statement. Starting off with a rather sad and hilarious note that this is not the bloody time for Kumbaya, the vitriol doesn’t let down from there. The targets of their piss and vinegar range from corporations, the alt-right Nazis, and a former Nazi scientist who ended up helping America get to outer space (“Von Braun Waltz”). Musically, the group still keep to the Bad Religion melodic punk playbook, meaning songs are sneakily catchy and maniacally pulsing. The “hum” factor is damn high on this lovely album (about not-so-lovely things, no doubt).

When the band are at their best (“They Live” and “Cold Reason” are wonderful), Fucked is packed with anthems for the resistance, and a reminder of the power of music to make you rethink your life outlook. There isn’t much of a drop in quality from the best to the “lesser” songs, as the album is always consistently very good, even if it’s only rarely truly exceptional. These songs feel tailor-made for the live setting, but the emotional impact is at least as important to what makes The Shell Corporation’s latest a great melodic punk release. Welcome back to the gang, and cheers to a Shell Corporation whose accounting books probably don’t need to be audited by the IRS. - Review by New Noise Magazine

La Escalera Records, Gunner Records

</g:description>

      <g:title>Western Settings - Agnus - CD single (European Tour edition)</g:title>
      <g:description>
Western Settings - Agnus

CD single (European Tour edition)

I know they've had a few EPs out but all I can remember about Western Settings is how awesome the Yes It Is full length was. And what's really impressive about their new EP in Angus is how quickly it shot me right back into digging into a discography which I can safely vouch for as one of modern punk's most underrated at the moment.

This collection of just three songs is a perfect shot for those who haven't been acquainted with the LA rockers in some time, and honestly, it's just as great an intro for those connecting with them for the first time. The first couple songs are atypical of the big bouncy hooks and sprawling melodies Wester Settings ruminate over in what I'd call the dad-punk aesthetic you'd find with bands like Restorations and Red City Radio. "That's Pretty Good" is a bit more serious than the livelier, wild "Duckets Is Tight" but together their contrasting dynamic creates such a perfect 1-2 combo that you just pray this is the beginning of a 10-tracker.

Ultimately, they wind down to a burning acoustic called "Agnus" which has a Neo-Western feel to it, leaving you as excited as ever for when the band chucks out the next LP. Expectations are high and this is the perfect way to whet the appetite for folks looking at shout-along punk bangers that are looking forward to screaming with strangers in dive bars. It's clear Western Settings have matured their sound with age, but still, the magic of old is there and they only direction the band is staring is forward. Review by Punknews.org

La Escalera Records

Gunner Records
</g:description>

      <g:title>Western Settings - yes it is - CD</g:title>
      <g:description>
Western Settings - Yes It Is - CD

I think it’s safe to say that Western Settings’ Yes It Is is just what the punk scene needs. This album is fast paced, full of energy and soul, and catchy as hell. It’s hard not to bob your head along to the aggressive verses and melodic choruses on Yes It Is, and by the time the album is through, I’m left wishing it was summer already.

From the very first track, the energy in Yes It Is is prominent. The gang vocals and upbeat chorus in “Revhead” is more than enough to hook you, and the slower second track, “Get It, Got It,” makes you want to stay.

The bass tone in “Dying Without Children” is the first thing that really sets this track apart, but the entire song is incredibly strong. From the gorgeous vocal harmonies to the smart lyricism and awesome tempo changes, “Dying Without Children” delivers. The rest of the album just backs up the solid sound that Western Settings establish with the first few songs, too. “Kicking And Screaming,” is a more pop-punk sounding track with pretty guitar work, and overall, the song is really positive and memorable with a sound that reminds me of I Am The Avalanche. The vocal work on “Yes It Is” is some of the strongest on the album. The tone of Ricky Schmidt’s voice in “Yes It Is” is gritty and aggressive, but in the following track, “Goodbye,” it’s soothing and melodic, showcasing his versatility perfectly.

I think the coolest thing about this album is that it’s unique. While the pop-punk scene is pretty saturated right now, the punk scene seems to be in need of a resurgence, and if anyone should be leading it, it’s Western Settings, who don’t fall completely into either genre. There’s a bit of the pop-punk sound in some of the choruses on Yes It Is, which make the album catchy and memorable, but it’s the gritty vocals and prominent bass tones that really set it apart and make it a great punk album. Yes It Is flows amazingly, without any songs that sound too similar to one another, but while remaining true to Western Settings’ distinct sound, and that’s what makes this album so strong.

La Escalera Records, Rad Girlfriend Records
</g:description>
